After three days in Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, it is finally time to leave for Baghdad. It is 5:45 in the morning and I am sitting in a large hanger waiting for news on the flight. I sneak off now and then to shoot a bit more of the latrine graffiti, as people found it suspicious when I would just stand in the bathroom with my cameras out waiting for stalls to open up.

Finally it is confirmed that we are leaving and after three more hours of waiting and formalities, we are shuttled out to a landing zone and herded onto a large military airplane.

We are herded on like cattle and cramped into hanging mesh seats. There is no air-conditioning and the thermometer on my watch reads 121F (49.4C). I look at the faces of the people on the plane with me as the last remaining light is cut off by the closing doors.

After a little over an hour, we arrive at Baghdad International Airport, known here is BIAP. Although the actual airport can be seen in the distance, the military flights land on the opposite end of the complex and drop us off near a series of hangers where incoming troops are processed and transferred to other locations. I will end up stuck in the hanger for the next half day, waiting for a helicopter to the Green Zone.

this the naked true, maybe this a little offensive but for disgrace is the true, in this war the rich is home drink some whiskey and the poor is dying in the battlefield do it nothing more than make more rich to rich.

Great post, but I have to say, if I were an officer and saw a woman jumping around inside her car, then diving for the floorboard, I would want to ask you "wat up?", too! Glad all are safe!

Hey another woman who like Chuck too, we can't talk about it so who knows how many are out there HA!Loved the movie too. I like bleak and tough, and breakneck speed writing.
Maybe I'll be sitting next to you on the way to Vegas and we'll somehow reveal our membership.

I first read it when I was about 11, after it first came out. Probably not the ideal age. Her daughter, Molly Jong Fast, has published a book, The Sex Doctors in the Basement, which seems to have been re-titled, Girl [Maladjusted] for the paperback edition, about life growing up with her mother

I didn't find it to be very good though. It was far too jokey in a self-consious sort of way and revealed more in what she was not telling than she does with the stories she chooses to relate, if that makes sense

As an anthro-archaeology geek, of course I'm gonna love this post. I'm no small Herzog fan either. Thanks for this.

That's the reality. Money talks and money walks. The rich will always be richer and the poor will always be poor. The rich doesn't even know the meaning on life.
Screw them.
