Another Wonderful TED Talk - Arthur Ganson's Moving Sculptures

I am not sure how this got left out of my list of the best TED Talks, as it is truly one of my favorites of all time.  It does not have a lot to do with photography and photojournalism, aside from the fact that it deals directly with creativity and artistry.  Anyway, I find it truly inspirational and incredible and wanted to share it with all of you.

 



Arthur Ganson - Moving Sculpture - It is truly rare to find artists that are this incredible. It does not get much better than this in my opinion!

 

Uganda - Boy Crying on Street

I have been working on editing my main sets of images from Uganda and will post them here as soon as I am finished.  The feature story will be about drug addicted children living on the streets.  It was tough to shoot and it is also just as tough to sit and look at while editing, day after day.  I have seen a lot of things and it is tough to shock me, but what these kids live through and with on a daily basis is pretty unreal.  Anyway, I will post the story here in the next couple of weeks.

Hunter S. Thompson - Quote

On my long flight back from Uganda I finished off one Hunter S. Thomposn book and began another.  This quote caught my eye and I wanted to share it here.  It is from his book The Rum Diary and when he refers to "the others" he is referring to other foreign journalists he was with at the time.)

"Like most of the others, I was a seeker, a mover, a malcontent, and at times a stupid hell-raiser. I was never idle long enough to do much thinking, but I felt somehow that my instincts were right. I shared a vagrant optimism that some of us were making real progress, that we had taken an honest road, and that the best of us would inevitably make it over the top. At the same time, I shared a dark suspicion that the life we were leading was a lost cause, that we were all actors, kidding ourselves along on a senseless odyssey. It was the tension between these two poles- a restless idealism on one hand and a sense of impending doom on the other---that kept me going."

I am finishing up week three of some pretty intense subject matter here in Uganda. I will get the heavy photojournalism stuff on the blog, most likely as a feature post and a few separate singles when I am done editing. Editing is what really takes time, so I could be finished in a week or ten weeks (maybe closer to the ten, it is so hard to look at this stuff after you have just been in the middle of it.) Anyway, until then, here is something nice I stumbled on amidst the chaos.
