My photos from the night Hurricane Sandy hit New York City can be seen at: Hurricane Sandy New York
This series of images was shot in the four days after Sandy hit the city. It has taken me a while to edit and post them because I was staying inside of the evacuation zone with no electricity and no internet (not to mention no water or heat either.)
My thoughts go out to all of those who were effected by this storm. It was incredible to see the devastation, something I am used to seeing in the developing world but rarely see at home to this degree. I know that many of those who I photographed will be struggling all winter and I hope that these photos are able to show the seriousness of the situation and that those who view them will be able to imagine the struggles that many have faced and will continue to face.
My thanks to my friend and former workshop student Elijah Solomon for driving us both around the chaos in order to capture the images outside of New York City. Elijah will be traveling around the country and photographing a number of stories and I encourage all of you to follow his traveles on his tumblr page.
