Lectures
- Public Presentations and LecturesZoriah has begun to devote a portion of each year to lecturing and presenting to universities, institutions and at political events. For universities, a typical itinerary consists of two days of presentations to multiple departments followed by a public, multi-departmental lecture. The presentations can be tailored in length and subject matter to each department and the multidepartmental lecture currently consist of a thirty minute slideshow showcasing recent work from Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Palestine, the Asian Earthquake and the Tsunami. The lecture touches on many subjects including the art of visual storytelling, the current state of the media and my own thoughts on documenting life in conflict. Lectures can be tailored to the need of each individual organization, university or event.

A metal scavenger uses a cutting torch to remove metal pipes from a wall in Detroit's abandoned Packard Auto Plant. The metal is collected and sold at local scrap yards for cash.

New Photographs From Detroit
I just finished up a project in Detroit and am beginning to edit the images. The idea was to explore how people are making ends meet and even surviving by scavenging scrap metal from abandoned buildings and factories.
One of the most famous abandoned factories in Detroit is the Packard Plant, a 3,500,000 square foot compound now decaying and and slowly crumbling. It was once the most modern automobile plant in the world and is now home to graffiti artists, drug addicts, homeless and metal scavengers.
I was most interested in the metal scavengers because they are surviving by what basically boils down to recycling an entire factory. I will talk more about it as I present this story piece by piece over the coming weeks :)
